October 19, 2009 Leif and I left Igiugig, we went to Juneau to a place where Phil built a house for us. There is a difference between a house and a home. Igiugig is our Home. We came back on February 10, 2010.
AlexAnna wrote an article in February's News and Notes that brought tears to our eyes and Yako wrote an article as well. So I thought this month I'd write an article too.
The month of February was quite busy with the Fire Department's fund raiser and the Poetry Slam. Igiugig is one of the busiest and most social villages I've ever been to. And believe me I've been to a lot of villages in Alaska as well as in the Siberian Far East.
Highlights:
School kids poetry slam, the whole community came to listen to the kids recite poetry, I loved it! How many small communities get together to listen to school kids recite poetry? Not very many. It goes to show our community supports and values our kids continuing education. And of course the desserts that came around the tables were delicious. Thanks to the kids and the teachers too.
One evening Leif went over to his Anana's and then he ran away from there. No coat, hat or shoes on, happily shrieking down the road laughing crazily, (thanks to Alla C). Not long after Jeremy came down the road with Leif's shoes in hand as well as his jacket. Leif comes into Gram's saying 'I run away'. Jeremy came over, carrying Danni, as they were walking home I saw April and Mary meet up with Jeremy and Danni. They stop, talk and April holds her arms out for Danni, Danni in response holds her arms out for April. Baby exchange occurs. On they walked towards Julie's house. Seeing this interaction on the road makes my heart really feel like I am home. Which brings another thought to mind.
We lost a family member in 2007, 08 and 09. We also had 3 births in those years Leif in 2007 , Danni 08, and Avery in 09.
IGIUGIG spells home...
