AlexAnna Salmon     The month of May is Kayangut, the time to go hunting for bird eggs! The Kvichak River braids belong to the birds—trumpeter swans, Canadian geese, mallards, whistling wings, speckled bellies, seagulls, terns, and snipes… They lay eggs at a time before the lodges open and the bugs begin to swarm! After a long, hectic day in The Office with phones ringing constantly and piles of paperwork that actually have no end, I find release on the River. It reminds me: this is why I am here—for this freedom!

Clinic News / May 2010

Thank you to Dr. Crossett and his assistant Amber for coming to Igiugig and providing dental care. We always appreciate your kind and knowledgeable advice.

There is not too much going on in the month of May. Barb will be out of the Clinic for a week at the end of May to teach her first ETT/CPR class in King Salmon. Dates to be announced.

Ida will be traveling off and on during the month of May to work in other lake area clinics. Dates to be announced.

It’s Spring! Get outside and walk… your heart will love you for it!

Dietician Visit

  •      BBAHC’s new Dietician, Jennifer Simpson visited Igiugig and provided fun educational activities at school, individual consultations, and community education, as well as a wonderful array of prizes including all sorts of vegetables and several fruit baskets.  Along with these planned activities she also graciously provided us with an interview to comment on the most important aspects of Diabetes Prevention.

     Energy makes everything happen—and it comes in many more forms than we generally think about.

  • Energy for running our bodies comes in the form of food.
  • Energy for heating homes comes in the form of firewood or stove oil.
  • Energy for cooking comes from propane or electricity.
  • Energy to run vehicle comes as gas or diesel.
  • Energy to run computers and other household gadgets comes from electricity.

“New Energy for Sustainable Communities”
This was the title of the 2010 Rural Energy Conference that I attended on behalf of Igiugig along with Randy during the last week of April, and it touched on all of the above listed energy issues with a focus on renewable forms of energy.
